What is Web Hosting?

Getting web hosting is like renting an apartment... It has an Address, Rooms and Mailboxes.
Like renting an apartment, you must first find an address (domain name) which tells people where to find you.
Next rent the apartment (webspace)... place furniture (web site) ... and finally put the occupants names on the mail box(es). This way the postmaster will know who receives the mail (e-mail).

A domain name is a name used on the Internet such as "HelpingHost.com". They are often called "URLs" for Universal Resource Locator and is the way people locate your website. Domains have different extensions called TLDs(Top Level Domains) such as .com, .net, or .org as well as international and specialized TLDs. Helping Host offers many different TLD's click here for an overview
You must purchase a domain from a "registrar" or an "authorized agent" and once registered the domain is exclusively yours to use. As the domain owner, you are responsible for paying annual registration fees to keep the domain "current" and retain your rights to the name. A Domain name by itself is not a website, but it is the first step. Helping Host offers a domain registration (or one year extension of your existing domain) starting at $12.95 per year.

A website is a collection of computer files that you build using your computer or our click'n'build Online Web Editor. In order for people throughout the world to view your website, those files must be copied or "uploaded" onto a special computer that is connected to the Internet 24 hours a day called a web server. When you buy a hosting package, you are renting webspace on a server in order to avoid all of the expense and technical aspects of doing it yourself. Helping Host offers a certain amount of webspace and different features per webhosting plan (more is available if necessary and can be added at anytime). Multiple Domain Web Hosting means that we allow you to put more that one domain name (like helpinghost.com) into one Web Hosting Account. Why is this a good thing? Most people like to secure their business name so they get the .com .net and .us domain for example. With other hosting companies you would need a new hosting account for every of those domains.

This means 3 usernames/password logging into a different account everytime you want to make a change and paying for 3 hosting accounts. With HelpingHost.com you can have all those domains in one single account with one username/password for one simple price. These domains can either point to each other, so for example HelpingHost.net and .us points to HelpingHost.com or be independent from each other having each their own content.

You could also put your friends and family websites into the account it does not matter. We even have Webdevelopers as clients who charge their clients for the web hosting and put the domain into one of our web Hosting accounts. No Problem at all.

E-Mail is and address that is formed by using the domain name (see above) and putting a name plus the @ sign before it.
For example This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it (where yourdomain.com is the domain you registered before. Like the web hosting we give you space where the e-mails can come in 24 hours a day even while you are sleeping and you can pick them up using a program on your computer or our webmail program from anywhere in the world.
