Pay Per Click - Paid Search Listings

IMPORTANT tip: There are many companies out there that create tons of traffic/hits towards your site but are these visitors really looking at your site or purchasing or do they leave you right after they entered your site?

Most search engines allow for paid listings in their index.  They are mostly separate from the "organic" results by color or in a reserved spot on the results page. In our opinion, every site that has a comercial goal, should budget a certain amount per month towards Pay per click listings. There are two Major Players:

1. Yahoo paid Search listings (former Overture)

At Yahoo Paid Search, you need to "bid" on the terms you wish to appear for. You offer to pay a certain amount each time someone clicks on your listing. Therefore the name "pay-per-click" (PPC) or a "cost-per-click" (CPC) search engine.

Imagine you would like to be listed as high as possible for the term "teddy bear". You are willing to pay $0.50 per click. If your competition does not bid higher than you, you now are in spot 1 on page 1. Yahoo Paid Search claims to cover 80% of all searches in the world. I'm not sure about the validity of such statments but can say that it is a very effective way to advertise.

2. Google Adwords paid Search listings.

Google Adwords places your paid listings on google search results on the right hand column.
Important TIP: opt out of the Adsense publishing. This is where other sites get paid to display adword listings on their site if they get clicks. A really bad Idea. (see below)

Advantage of Google Adwords compared to Yahoo paid search is that you have more freedom of choosing the wording in your ads and headlines and you listing position is not only determined by bid but also click through rate.

There are other players in this field but you have to remember a couple of things if you are looking for them:

1. Some of these traffic websites send everybody to you if they are interested in your product/site or not.

2. Some sites give out money to their affiliates, the more clicks the more money. So, how many clicks do you think you get from these people who are really interested in your web site?

Conclusion:

You need TARGETED traffic (means visitors that are interested in your web site or products).
We suggest a pay per click Search Engine.

You need to be sure that the PPC (pay per click) search engine does NOT offer per click incentives to their affiliates or you can opt out as you can with Google adwords.

The Advantage of PPC Search Engines is that you ONLY pay for people that actually visit your web site.
As a good example we suggest Yahoo Search Marketing (The leader in PPC, WE are using them too! Because of that you will receive up to $50 credit for signup):
