What is CodeGuard?
CodeGuard is a service that provides automatic website and database backups. It monitors your website and database regularly. If any changes are detected, it will notify you about the changes. It also allows you to restore your website and database to a previous version.
Wouldn't the HelpingHost.com's backup suffice?
HelpingHost.com has so called onsite backups available to you that you can also restore yourself. However without some knowledge about the software you are using, for example WordPress, Joomla, Magento and so on, you may need a hand from HelpingHost.com Support which might not be instant.
CodeGuard provides safe, offsite (meaning in a different location) backup that is 100% independent from HelpingHost.com.
It allows a simple one Click restore of your WordPress for example at any time of the day or night.
Moreover, HelpingHost.com will only provide you with a limited number of backups from the past. CodeGuard follows a versioning system and allows you to restore a backup of any earlier date as well. (depending of course on what you set as the retention cycle in your CodeGuard dashboard).
How does CodeGuard connect to my website?
For basic WordPress sites the easiest option is the WordPress plugin that we provide to you after signup.
If your website is not a WordPress site and is hosted on HelpingHost.com’s servers, use the SFTP option. Also, you can use FTP.
In case of other hosting providers, you can choose either the FTP or SFTP option, based on your service provider’s settings.
What types of database are supported for backup?
CodeGuard only supports MySQL type databases.
How does CodeGuard store data? Is it encrypted?
All customer backup data is encrypted using AES-256 bit keys.
How long are the backups stored in my CodeGuard account?
By default, 90 days of backups are stored. You can choose to retain all backups, from the Backup Retention Settings section in the ACCOUNT SETTINGS view.
Can I upgrade/downgrade my CodeGuard order?
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade your existing Codeguard package at anytime. In order to downgrade your plan, make sure your resources ( disk space, websites) are within the limits of the lower plans.
